CW508L (chemical designation CuZn37, historically referenced under British Standard BS 2874 CZ107/CZ108 or German DIN W.Nr. 2.0321) is the premier European single-phase (α) wrought brass defined under EN standards including EN 12164 (rods), EN 12165 (forgings), EN 1652 (plate/strip), and EN 12449 (tubes). Formulated with 62.0% to 64.0% copper and a zinc balance with a tightly restricted maximum lead content of 0.10%, CW508L is widely recognized as the classic "cartridge brass" equivalent in Europe. CW508L maintains a homogeneous face-centered cubic alpha crystal structure that offers exceptional cold-forming ductility, allowing it to withstand severe multi-stage deep drawing, spinning, and bending.
