UNS C27450 (standardized under ASTM B927 for brass rod, bar, and shapes, and ASTM B124 for forging stock) is a low-lead wrought copper-zinc alloy formulated to comply with strict environmental and health regulations regarding potable water contact. Formulated with 60.0% to 65.0% copper, a zinc balance, and a tightly restricted maximum lead content of 0.25%, C27450 provides an economical transition between traditional leaded machining brasses and completely lead-free engineered alloys. Operating on a dual-phase or high-zinc alpha-beta transition similar to CuZn37, C27450 satisfies modern global drinking water standards (such as NSF/ANSI 372 and RoHS Exemption 6(c) compliance) while delivering dependable mechanical strength, cold-forming plasticity, and moderate machinability.
