C2800

JIS C2800 (standardized under JIS H 3250 for brass rods and bars, JIS H 3100 for brass sheets, plates, and strips, and JIS H 3300 for tubes; historically known as Muntz Metal or CuZn40) is a classic (α + β) duplex structural brass. Formulated with 59.0% to 63.0% copper and a zinc balance, C28000 sits on the threshold where the microstructural phase balance transitions from a single-phase alpha matrix into a dual-phase alpha-beta structure. This higher proportion of the harder, more rigid beta (β) phase gives JIS C2800 higher tensile strength, structural rigidity, and hot workability than traditional alpha brasses, making it the premier Japanese industrial standard alloy for heavy plates, structural shapes, heat exchanger tubesheets, and hot-forged architectural components.
