IS 320 Grade HT1 (governed by the Bureau of Indian Standards specification IS 320: High Tensile Brass Rods and Sections Other Than Forging Stock) is an engineered, high-strength copper alloy classified metallurgically as a Manganese Bronze. Formulated on a reinforced (α + β) duplex brass matrix, it contains 56.0% to 60.0% copper, micro-alloyed with 0.25% to 2.0% Manganese (Mn), 0.20% to 1.25% Iron (Fe), and 0.20% to 1.0% Tin (Sn). Unlike Grade HT2 (which contains up to 2.0% aluminum), Grade HT1 restricts aluminum to a strict maximum of 0.20%. This aluminum restriction makes HT1 suitable for soldering, silver alloy brazing, and applications requiring high tensile and torsional load-bearing capacity without surface wetting interference.
