C86300

UNS C86300 (standardized under ASTM B505 / ASTM B505M for continuous casting, ASTM B584 for sand casting, and ASTM B271 for centrifugal casting; historically designated as SAE 430B or No. 2 Manganese Bronze) is one of the strongest non-ferrous cast alloys available. Classified metallurgically as a modified (α + β) duplex high-tensile brass, C86300 achieves its mechanical properties by combining 60.0% to 66.0% Copper with high additions of Aluminum (5.0% - 7.5%), Iron (2.0% - 4.0%), and Manganese (2.5% - 5.0%).The synergy between iron and aluminum precipitates an array of hard, microscopic intermetallic phases throughout the matrix. This microstructural reinforcement yields tensile strengths exceeding 760 MPa (110 ksi) and yield strengths above 415 MPa (60 ksi) in the as-cast condition without requiring post-cast quench-and-temper heat treatments.
