IS 6912 FHTB-II (standardized under Bureau of Indian Standards specification IS 6912: Copper and Copper Alloy Forging Stock and Forgings) designates Forging High-Tensile Brass Grade II (closely aligned with high-strength casting and rod grades such as IS 320 HT2). Formulated on a multi-phase (α + β) duplex brass matrix, FHTB-II combines 56.0% to 61.0% copper with controlled additions of Aluminum (0.30% - 2.00%), Manganese (0.50% - 2.00%), Iron (0.20% - 1.50%), and a controlled Lead (0.50% - 1.50%) content. Unlike Grade FHTB-I (which restricts aluminum to preserve brazing performance), FHTB-II intentionally leverages aluminum as an active solid-solution strengthener and hardener. Combined with iron and manganese intermetallics, this alloy is engineered for closed-die hot stampings that require high yield strength, resistance to dynamic shock loading, and high surface wear resistance.
