IS 6912 FHTB-I (standardized under Bureau of Indian Standards specification IS 6912: Copper and Copper Alloy Forging Stock and Forgings) designates Forging High-Tensile Brass Grade I (often cross-referenced with high-tensile brass forging variants like IS 320 HT1). Formulated on a multi-phase (α + β) duplex brass matrix, FHTB-I combines 56.0% to 60.0% copper with controlled additions of Manganese (0.25% - 2.00%), Iron (0.20% - 1.25%), Tin (0.20% - 1.00%), and a controlled Lead (0.20% - 1.50%) content. Crucially, FHTB-I restricts aluminum to a strict maximum of 0.20%. This aluminum-free or low-aluminum formulation ensures that hot-forged components can be readily joined via soft soldering or silver-alloy brazing, while providing high tensile strength, load-bearing rigidity, and resistance to marine corrosion.
